American cuisine is based on the English culinary traditions of the 17th-18th centuries, mixed with some culinary traditions of American Indians (corn and sweet potato dishes, maple syrup, etc.), it has changed significantly over the past three centuries, becoming a synthesis of culinary traditions from around the world, combining the cuisines of various immigrant cultures.
German “Hamburg steaks” and sausages, Italian pizza and pasta, Chinese dishes have become American dishes.
For many decades, the main diet of American old-timers, especially on farms, was pork and beans, as well as corn. Molasses was eaten in large quantities.
In the realities of modern life, Americans rarely cook at home, so modern American nutrition is characterized by an extremely wide distribution of semi-finished products, fast food restaurants (i.e. fast food) and restaurants of national cuisine, which also makes it difficult to characterize American cuisine. One of the most common semi-finished products is pizza.
For breakfast, Americans most often eat the so-called cereal – dry corn, rice or wheat flakes with skim milk. Or flour from the same grains is simply diluted with boiling water. In the morning, it is also customary to drink a glass of orange or grapefruit juice, for children – more often apple juice. Sometimes they drink a cup of coffee with a small bun or bagel. On weekends, Americans spend more time preparing breakfast, which can be waffles with maple syrup or scrambled eggs.
